JIMMY THOMPSON ICEBERGS

25 APRIL - 14 MAY, 2015

The LODGE is pleased to present Icebergs, an exhibition of six new drawings by Los Angeles artist Jimmy Thompson. This series of ink, charcoal and acrylic drawings depict icebergs in various states.

Thompson’s icebergs started out as smaller scale sketches and drawings, which became larger full-colored pieces done between 2014 and 2015. The structure of the iceberg lends itself as a metaphor frequently used in different fields from psychoanalysis to cultural studies. The sharp angles of the icebergs are reminiscent of the facets on a cut jewel.

Jimmy Thompson lives and works in Los Angeles. He studied at California Institute of the Arts receiving his BFA in Character Animation in 2004. He founded the Brainbow design studio in 2008 with two CalArts alumni. The studio has collaborated on design and motion projects with clients ranging from global brands, film studios and musical artists, most notably for the short film The Schwarzenegger Trilogy, commissioned by the Standard Hotel.
