L.A. Landscapes And Other Pleasures
21st July - 21th August, 2022
The Lodge is delighted to present LA Landscapes & Other Pleases a group exhibition of 16 artists considering iconic Los Angeles through painting, photography, textiles and ceramics - Meegan Barnes, Nils Benson, Edward Cushenberry, Jake Fagundo, Konstantin Kakanias, Annie Kelly, Sheila Klein, Karl Ljungquist, Jim McHugh, Evan Mendel, Ed Ruscha, Jake Sheiner, Sarah Stitt, Akiko Stehrenberger, Nick Taggart & Senon Williams.
The curation brings together over 30 works to reimagine an alternative view of Los Angeles where inhabitants laconically and non-sequentially coexist. Much like when one views a film shot in Los Angeles and the actors walk into a building in Santa Monica and then exits the scene in Downtown LA.
The intentional panorama created by the installation reflects the transient nature of the city's architecture. Being the home of Hollywood, Los Angeles' incongruous city scape includes many structures that were built for film shoots then repurposed for the “real world” creating an ephemeral potpourri of a city.
The exhibition ignites in the viewer personal memories and propels one to reflect on the complex history of Los Angeles. Reminding us that when singular voices are installed together a power of the collected is ignited.
The exhibition is on view from 21st July - 21st August , 2022. The Lodge (at 1024 N Western Avenue LA CA 90029) is open Thursday- Saturday from 12-6pm.
